Contact granuloma
vocal cord granuloma, vocal fold granuloma, processus vocalis granuloma.
Contact granuloma of the vocal fold is an alteration or formation in the posterior part of the vocal fold. The voice quality is usually only slightly affected. It primarily affects men.
What causes contact granuloma?
The cause of contact granuloma is attributed to unfavorable vocal technique as well as gastric acid reflux.
Therapy:
Surgical removal is not a sustainable solution as contact granulomas often reoccur and grow larger after the operation. In TheVoice Clinic, a new strategy is being applied to treat this condition without ablation under general anesthesia, which has shown very good results according to studies.
Intubation granulomas:
Intubation granulomas are similar to contact granulomas, as they are thickening on the processus vocalis. However, they occur after general anesthesia with intubation and are more likely to be trauma-related. It is presumed that the much smaller size of the larynx in women plays a role in this condition.
